Geer, Headley receive Texas League honors

Right-hander Josh Geer and third baseman Chase Headley were named Texas League Pitcher and Player of the Year, respectively. Each was also named to the Texas League post-season All-Star team along with catcher Nick Hundley and outfielder Will Venable.

Josh Geer has a 15-6 mark with a 3.23 over 164.1 innings in the Texas League, placing second in the circuit in ERA and innings pitched and first in wins.

Geer has walked just 26 batters on the season and has allowed two runs or less in 14 of his 25 starts. He has held the opposition to a .256 average against, allowing just six first inning runs.

On the day it was announced that he won Pitcher of the Year, Geer was also awarded Pitcher of the Week after going 1-0 with a 0.00 ERA in one start.

With only 1.5 games separating San Antonio from Frisco (the first-half champions) in the Texas League Southern Division, the Missions need all the clutch performances they can get. This week, Josh Geer delivered with his best outing of the year. The Dallas native limited the high-powered RoughRiders offense to just three hits over eight shutout innings. With the dominating outing, Geer grabbed a share of the Minor League lead in wins (16). He's 7-2 with a 2.64 ERA since the All-Star break.

Chase Headley is the league leader in average at .323, on base percentage at .429 and slugging percentage at .574. He is in the top five in eight different offensive categories.

Over 114 games, Headley has 134 hits, 35 doubles, five three-baggers, 19 homers, 74 RBIs and 79 runs scored. He has committed just 11 errors in the field.

Nick Hundley is hitting .240 with 20 doubles, and 68 RBIs while drawing 40 walks in 94 games. Hundley ranks fourth in the league with 20 home runs.

The backstop has thrown out 29 of the 79 baserunners attempting to steal off him, good for 36.7 percent.

Will Venable is hitting .281 with 18 doubles, eight homers, 64 runs scored and 64 RBIs in 126 games for the Missions. Venable also ranks fifth in the league with 21 stolen bases.
