Acquired by the Padres from the Boston Red Sox on December 16, 2002, Cruz has hit at a .245 clip (517-for-2114) with 116 doubles, 37 home runs, 238 RBI, 253 runs scored and 16 stolen bases in 559 minor league games with the Red Sox (2001-02) and Padres (2003-06) organizations. He has appeared in 306 games at shortstop, 104 at second base and 27 at third base.
The 25-year-old Leo Rosales went 5-6 with a 3.21 ERA (22 ER/61.2 IP) in 53 relief appearances for Double-A Mobile in 2006, compiling 54 strikeouts compared to 18 walks. He also appeared in five games for Single-A Lake Elsinore, going 1-0 in 6.1 scoreless innings of relief for the Storm. Rosales recently pitched for the Peoria Saguaros in the Arizona Fall League and led the league with seven saves.
Selected by the Padres in the 20th round of the 2003 First-Year Player Draft, Rosales is 23-15 with 56 saves and a 2.47 ERA (64 ER/233.2 IP) in 208 minor league games. He has recorded 262 career strikeouts compared to 75 walks.
San Diego's 40-man roster now stands at 32, including 19 pitchers, two catchers, six infielders and five outfielders.
