Sansoe, Dunn win Player of the Week honors

Fort Wayne Wizards outfielder Mike Sansoe was named Offensive Player of the Week in the Midwest League and Eugene Emeralds left-hander Brooks Dunn was named Pitcher of the Week in the Northwest League.

Mike Sansoe was named the Midwest League's Offensive Player of the Week for the final scoring period of the regular season, from August 28 through September 4.

Sansoe's award comes two weeks after teammate Will Venable won the Midwest League Offensive Player of the Week from August 14 through August 20.

Sansoe hit .521 (12-for-23) to lead the Wizards to a 6-2 mark against the Clinton Lumber Kings (Texas Rangers affiliate) and the South Bend Silver Hawks (Arizona Diamondbacks affiliate). He raised his season average from .272 to .293 over the week.

Splitting time in centerfield, Sansoe also scored eight runs, had one double, a pair of triples, drove in five runs, walked six times, stole one base, and capped off the regular season, a 6-5 win against South Bend, with a two-run homer, his first of the year.

Sansoe, Venable and former catcher Nick Hundley all represented the Wizards this season by winning the Midwest League's Offensive Player of the Week. Hundley earned the award from June 12 through June 18.

Brooks Dunn was named the Northwest League's Pitcher Player of the Week for August 28 through September 4.

Brooks Dunn finished the week with a 2-0 record and a 0.00 ERA. In 13 innings he allowed six hits, one walk and struck out nine.

Dunn tossed six shutout innings against Everett on Wednesday, but found a way to be even better against Salem-Keizer on Monday. The 22-year-old allowed a hit to the game's first batter, and then proceeded to toss seven innings of no-hit ball. Eugene won the game, 8-0.

Dunn's success comes a week after Aaron Breit was named Pitcher of the Week. Recommended Stories
