Padres trade minor leaguer, release several

With roughly 165 minor league players in camp, the San Diego Padres knew they would have to make some roster moves. That came on Monday when they released seven players and traded another.

First baseman Greg Sain was traded to the Milwaukee Brewers for a player to be named later on Monday. Sain split the 2005 season between Double-A Mobile and Triple-A Portland, hitting .260 in 64 games for Mobile and .273 in 56 games for Portland.
