Moves in Mobile

The San Diego Padres have sent shortstop Ronnie Merrill to Triple-A Portland, brought back Luis Cruz from the Mexican League and have added Dirk Hayhurst to Mobile from Single-A Lake Elsinore.

Ronnie Merrill, one of the most popular Mobile players moved up to Triple-A Portland on Sunday. Merrill was hitting .246 with eight homers and 58 RBI's on the year.

The shortstop is hitting .284 during 21 games in August with 15 walks and just seven strikeouts.

Luis Cruz hit .283 in 61 games for the Mexico Red Devils with 22 extra base hits and 23 RBI's. The shortstop hit .152 in 31 games for Mobile earlier this year.

Dirk Hayhurst went 4-5 with a save for the Lake Elsinore Storm, posting a 5.54 ERA in 79.2 innings. He has made six starts and 28 relief appearances for the Storm. Recommended Stories
