Ben Johnson recalled; Phil Nevin to the DL
Over parts of 11 Major League seasons with the Houston Astros (1995), Detroit Tigers (1995-1997), Anaheim Angels (1998) and Padres (1999-2005), Nevin has a career batting average of .277 (1,015-for-3,668) with 183 home runs, 192 doubles and 667 RBI.
Ben Johnson, 24, has played in 73 games for the Beavers, batting .299 (82-for-274) with a team-high 17 home runs and is tied for the team lead with 49 RBI. Over parts of six minor league seasons in the St. Louis and San Diego organizations, Johnson has a career batting average of .259 (690-for-2661) with 97 home runs and 398 RBI in 751 games.
Additionally, infielder/outfielder Eric Young will begin a 20-day rehabilitation assignment with Portland today. Young was placed on the 60-day disabled list on April 8 due to a separated right shoulder. He has appeared in three games for the Padres this season, batting .333 (1-for-3) with a double and two runs scored.
