San Diego and Peavy Excited About 2005

The San Diego Padres didn't do a whole lot of retooling for the 2005 season. After increasing their win total by 23 games over the previous year, they are looking to build on the foundation of their success and get over the hump and into the playoffs with their core nucleus still intact. Holding the core in place is Jake Peavy, who signed an extension to stay with the team through 2009.

The Padres ended the year seven games out of the wildcard and while other teams in their division made moves that grabbed more headlines, the Padres major acquisition was a trade that netted centerfielder Dave Roberts, bringing an element of speed to a lineup devoid of that quality.   With several members of the squad having down years, the promise of 2005 rides on the resurgence.  And Jake...
