Jake Gautreau had just arrived, via cab, to the ballpark for his first night this year as a member…
Girardeau up, De La O out
Over his last two starts prior to being promoted, he was 2-0 with nine strikeouts. During his last start for Fort Wayne, Girardeau went 8 2/3 innings, allowing two runs and six hits, while striking out seven. It was the second time in the last three games that Girardeau has pitched into the ninth inning.
Take away one terrible start and Girardeau did not allow more than four earned runs in any outing. He allowed three earned runs or less in ten of his starts.
Danny De La O was 1-0 with a 6.43 ERA starting one game and making one relief appearance for the Wizards. He pitched in seven innings, allowing 10 hits, walking a pair and striking out four. He also allowed two homers, one in each game he took the hill.
De La O, a 30th round selection by San Diego in 2003, spent last year with Idaho Falls. He was 3-1 in 31 appearances, including two starts. He recorded three saves and struck out 56 and allowed 47 hits in 48 innings of work. De La O was second on the Idaho Falls staff in saves and strikeouts while averaging 10.5 strikeouts per nine innings.
The Wizards current roster now has 23 players. The San Diego Padres are expected to assign new players to Fort Wayne following the Midwest League All-Star break.
