Padres' Greene is red hot

It's no wonder Rey Ordonez tucked his tail and ran. Khalil Greene is officially on fire. Since the news broke, Greene has six RBI's. Greene doubled and homered to drive in four runs in an 11-8 San Diego Padres win over the Arizona Diamondbacks on Saturday.

"He's played well all spring," manager Bruce Bochy said. "It's good to see the way he's playing. He's seeing the ball very well right now."

The Padres scored 11 runs in the first three innings and pounded out 14 hits on the day, ten coming in the first two plus innings off Shane Reynolds.

Khalil Greene started the scoring off with a home run in the first to drive in Ramon Vasquez who tripled to open the game.

"If he gets a hold of it, it's going to leave the ballpark. He's strong," Bochy said. "He's not a home run hitter but if he gets it up in the air it has a chance of going out."

Greene leads the team in RBI's with 14 this spring. He is also tied for the MLB lead in that category with JD Drew of Atlanta.

Vasquez hit a homer in the second to give the Padres the lead again. The Friars had briefly lost the lead when they committed two errors in the second, one by Rico Washington and another by Tom Wilson.

Sterling Hitchcock allowed six runs, four earned, on 10 hits and a walk over 3 2/3 innings. Akinori Otsuka came in to get the last out in the fourth inning, with two on, in relief of Hitchcock.

Terrence Long went 2-2 with two doubles and an RBI and Jose Nieves went 2-2. Hitchcock knocked in a run and Tom Wilson plated two. Recommended Stories
