MadFriars' Daily Farm Report: September 3

The only San Diego teams to make the playoffs this year, both entered the game as underdogs and yet both had the lead late in the game.

Unfortunately the Storm couldnt hold onto the lead and face a must win game in a best of three series 0-1. Fort Wayne is on the opposite side thanks to strong performance from Dustin Peterson and Fernando Perez to take a 1-0 lead in their best of five series. Storm 2 – Inland Empire 4

Key Statistics: RHP Bryan Rodriguez 6 IP, 6 H, ER, 3 BB, 3 Ks; RHP Tayron Guerrero (BS,1)(L,0-1) 1.0 IP BB K; LHP Brandon ALger 1.2 IP 2 H R ER BB 2 Ks;CF Alberth Martinez 2-4, RS; DH Jeudy Valdez 2-3, 2B.

Prospect Watch Lake Elsinore took a 2-1 lead in the sixth inning after Jeremy Baltz and Dane Phillips hit back to back RBI singles. The lead was short lived as Tayron Guerrero struggled to find home plate (23 pitches 11 strikes), eventually blowing the lead and picking up the loss. The Storm are now down 1-0 in a best of three series.

TinCaps 7– West Michigan Whitecaps 5

Key Statistics: SS Trea Turner 1-4, RS, BB; 3B Fernando Perez 2-4, 2B; DH Dustin Peterson 3-3, 2 2B, 2 RS, 2 RBI; 2B Josh VanMeter 3-4, RS, 2 RBI; RHP Jimmy Brasoban 4.1 IP 5 H 5 R 4 ER BB 3 Ks 2 HR; RHP Jason Jester (W,1-0) 2.0 IP H 2 Ks; RHP Ryan Butler (S,1) 1.0 IP H.

Prospect Watch Fresh off winning a series against the Whitecaps to get into the playoffs, the TinCaps played them again and once again took the victory. Dustin Peterson’s three hit game was his first three hit game since July 1st and the five total bases were also his most since August 4th. With Turner cooled off (.270 over last 2 weeks), and their biggest power threat (Franmil Reyes) having hit just one over his last 30 games, the TinCaps could really use a hot Dustin Peterson to carry them past West Michigan this best of five series.

For further reading on the TinCaps, see the Fort Wayne Journal-Gazette.
