MadFriars' Daily Farm Report August 1

Matt Wisler

The system goes 1-5 as only the Chihuahuas win in extra-innings.

Chihuahuas 4 - Las Vegas 51s 3 10 innings

Key Statistics:LF Jonathan Galvez 2-5; RF Jake Goebbert 4-5; 1B Cody Decker 2-5, 2B; P Matt Wiser 1-1; RHP Matt Wisler 5.2 IP 5 H R 4 BB K; RHP Hector Ambriz (BS,4) 0.2 IP 2 H R ER 2 BB;RHP Dennis O’Grady (W, 5-1) 1.1 IP 2 BB K; RHP Jerry Sullivan (S,6) 1.0 IP H R ER.

Prospect Watch:The Chihuahuas got two runs in the top of the tenth and held on in the bottom of the inning after allowing a run to win in a rare Las Vegas game that didn’t see a lot of offense...It was Wisler’s fifth strong start in his last six outings. Don’t look for Wisler, 21, to be moved up to San Diego in September simply because the Padres’ don’t have to put him on the forty-man roster and are going to want to save a roster spot in the off-season...On the other hand 1B/OF Jake Goebbert might be back. He is at .304/.412/.493...RHP Jerry Sullivan got the the save. Sullivan, a third round draft pick in 2009, has had a solid season in El Paso with a 3.22 ER and a 26/5 K/BB ratio in 22.1 innings.

Frisco RoughRiders 4 -San Antonio 1

Key Statistics:RF Alex Dickerson 1-4; C Austin Hedges 1-4; DH Adam Buschini 1-3, HR (7), RBI; LHP Robbie Erlin 2.1 IP 3 H BB K; RHP Bryce Morrow (L, 3-4) 3.2 IP 7 H 4 R 4 ER BB 3 Ks; RHP Michael Dimock 1.0 IP H 2 Ks.

Prospect Watch:The RoughRiders scored all four of their runs in the sixth inning to snap San Antonio’s season high six game winning streak...Robbie Erlin, who looked very sharp in his earlier rehab start in the AZL pitched well tonight in his return to San Antonio....Poway High’s Alex Dickerson has now hit in all eight games he’s played in with San Antonio for a .400/.417/.543 slash line.

For further reading on the San Antonio Missions, see the San Antonio Express-News.

Lancaster Jethawks 6 - Storm 2

Key StatisticsCF Travis Jankowski 3-4, 2B, BB, SB (1); RF Alberth Martiniez 2-4; LF Jeremy Baltz 2-3, 2B, RBI; RHP Rafael De Paula (L, 1-1) 6.0 IP 6 H 5 R 5 ER 3 BB 4 Ks 2 HR.

Prospect Watch:The JetHawks scored five runs in the first three innings as the visiting Storm lost their third straight game...Travis Jankowski had a big night in his first night back in High-A after spending time in Eugene and AZL as part of his rehab from a gruesome wrist injury in late April which kept him out until mid-July...Alberth Martiniez has been up and down all year. He hit .306 in April and .343 in July but .212 in May and .266 in June. Still he 36 extra-base hits and by the end of year could put up some decent numbers. Although with his speed he should be better than five for eleven in stolen bases.

West Michigan Whitecaps 5 - TinCaps 2

Key Statistics:LF Henry Charles 1-3, BB; 2B Reynaldo Bruguera 2-4, 2B; RHP Ronald Herrera 5.0 IP 3 H BB K; RHP Josh Richardson (BS, 1) (L, 1-2) 0.0 IP 5 H 5 R 5 ER BB; RHP Jorge Guzman 2.0 IP K; RHP Nick Mutz 1.0 IP 2 Ks.

Prospect WatchAs the TinCaps’ play-by-play announcer John Nolan noted in his post-game report one bad inning cost Fort Wayne the game tonight. Relief pitcher Josh Richardson faced six batters in the sixth inning after starter Ronald Herrera had thrown five shutout innings and gave up five hits and a walk without getting a single out. It was his second worst outing of the year for a pitcher that was very good in June (2.08 ERA) and July (1.86 ERA)...Only Rey Bruguera had more than a hit tonight to push his slash line to .315/.362/.370.

For further reading on the TinCaps, see the Fort Wayne Journal-Gazette.

Everett AquaSox 3 - Emeralds 0

Key Statistics:SS River Stevens 1-3, SB (2); RHP Zech Lemond (L, 1-2) 5.0 IP 3 H R ER 5 Ks; LHP Travis Radke 2.0 IP 2 H BB K.

Prospect WatchThe AquaSox held the hometown Ems to a single hit and wasted another strong pitching performance by third round pick Zech Lemond. In his last three starts Lemond has allowed two earned runs in three starts and 12 innings.

For further reading on the Emeralds, see the Eugene Register-Guard.

AZL Mariners 7 - AZL Padres 3

Key Statistics:PH-SS Mitchell Morales 0-2, 2 BB; SS-2B Daniel Bravo 2-3, 2B, BB; LHP Alexander Constanza (L, 1-3) 3.2 IP 6 H 4 R 2 ER 3 Ks; RHP Corey Kimber 1.1 IP 3 Ks; RHP Malcom Diaz 1.2 IP BB 2 Ks.

Prospect WatchAlong with outfielders Jordan Paroubeck and Michael Gettys, 2B/3B Daniel Bravo, 19, from Venezuela may be someone else to watch with his .290/.350/.441 slash line.
