The Opening: Austin Bryant

The 2014 football season starts in just over a month for Austin Bryant and there is a chance that he has his decision before then...

Over 30 schools have offered Austin Bryant a scholarship and one time or another. Now with only six-plus months to go until signing day, only seven schools still have a chance.

The 6-foot-4, 249 pound defensive end out of Thomasville (Ga.) Thomas County Central has focused his mind on specific schools and a decision may not be too far away.

"There is a chance I commit before the season starts," said Bryant. "I am not into making all those cuts, naming favorites, and all that, so when I am ready, I will just commit to one of my favorites I have now.

"Clemson, Florida, Florida State, Notre Dame, UCLA, Stanford, and USC are the schools I am still thinking about.

"I would say it is likely that I commit to one of those schools pretty soon."

The four-star didn't drop any hints about who he may be leaning towards right now after visiting four schools this summer.

"Honestly, I have been getting some pretty good feelings about a school," said Bryant. "I have visited Florida, FSU, Clemson, and Notre Dame this summer."Each school has something nice about it and I like all four of them. I may get back to Clemson one more time, but I am not sure if I will take anymore visits this summer yet or not."

Bryant had a strong showing at The Opening last week in Oregon and he is now back home working out with his teammates preparing for a big senior season.

He has played linebacker, stand-up rush end, and put his hand in the dirt on the high school level. Bryant will likely battle in the trenches as a weakside end on the next level.

Who could line up in front of him when he arrives on campus will factor into his decision.

"Playing time is important to me, so that is something I am looking at with each school. I am also looking for the place that has that home-feel to it.

"Relationships are important too because I want to connect with the coaches. Academics would be the last thing for me. Those things will help me pick my school."

Scout ranks Bryant as the No. 26 defensive end in the country.
