MadFriars' Daily Farm Report July 10

Jace Peterson

Jace Peterson led El Paso to a win. Hunter Renfroe homered again. Storm get a grand slam from Gabriel Quintana. While the lower minors saw record long losing streaks continue.

Game 1: Chihuahuas 6 – Albuquerque Isotopes 7

Key Statistics: RHP Juan Oramas 4.1 IP, 6 H, 2 ER, BB, 4 Ks; SS Tyler Greene 3-4, 2 2B, 2 RS, RBI; 1B Cody Decker 1-5, HR (13), RBI; 3B Chris Nelson 3-4, 2B RBI.

Game 2: Chihuahuas 8 – Albuquerque Isotopes 7

Key Statistics: RHP Keyvius Sampson 0 IP, 2 H, 2 ER, BB; 2B Jace Peterson 3-4, 2 2B, 3B, 2 RS, RBI, BB; RF Jeff Francouer 4-4, 2B, RS, 2 RBI; LF Reymond Fuentes 2-4, HR (1), 3 RBI.

Prospect Watch Despite only playing shortstop through the last few years with the Padres, Jace Peterson has played primarily a second baseman since his demotion to AAA. That is interesting considering the Padres are without their starting shortstop and saw today that they really do not have another natural on on the MLB roster... The door might be slamming shut on Sampson. He might be only 23 but still can't seem to have control of his pitches on a daily basis, and is in danger of being dropped from the 40 man.

San Antonio Missions 6 – Midland Rockhounds 7

Key Statistics: RHP James Needy 4 IP, 8 H, 4 ER, BB, 7 Ks; LF Hunter Renfroe 2-4, 2B, HR (19), 4 RBI; RF Yeison Asencio 4-4, 3 2B, RBI.

Prospect Watch Tough game for James Needy, it was his shortest start and most runs allowed since April... Cory Spangenberg had hit in all seven games since coming back to San Antonio. That streak was snapped with an 0-5 on the day.... Renfroe had his first multi extra-base hit game since joining the Missions. He has six RBI in his last 5 at-bats including a double and two home runs.

Storm 7 – Rancho Cucamonga Quakes 3

Key Statistics: RHP Bryan Rodriguez 7 IP, 2 H, ER, BB, 7 Ks; 3B Benji Gonzalez 2-4, 2B, 2 RS; SS Diego Goris 2-5, 2B, RS, RBI; DH Gabriel Quintana 2-4, GS (14), 4 RBI; LF Jeremy Baltz 2-4, HR (4), 2 RS.

Prospect Watch Happy Birthday Bryan Rodriguez a few days after his 23rd birthday he tossed arguably his best start of the year allowing only three baserunners in the game... Gabriel Quintana has now homered in four of his last five games and has 12 RBI in that span. He is also 14 for his last 30.

TinCaps 1 – Great Lakes Loons 8

Key Statistics: RHP Jimmy Brasoban 2.2 IP, 4 H, 6 ER, 4 BB, 2 Ks; 3B Dustin Peterson 2-5, 2B; RF Franmil Reyes 2-4, RBI; SS Josh VanMeter 2-4.

Prospect Watch Josh VanMeter is hitting .343/.410 over the last two weeks. Make it 12 losses in a row for the TinCaps.

Ems 5 – Salem-Keizer Volcanoes 6

Key Statistics: RHP Griffen Russell 2.2 IP, 2 H, ER, 3 BB, K; 1B Marcus Davis 2-4, 2 2B, 2 RS; CF Austin Bousfield 2-4, 2B, RS, SB (1).

Prospect Watch Trea Turner might not be hitting but Marcus Davis certainly is. The former Seminole has 11 hits in his last six games with four doubles and three home runs... Austin Bousfield was 2-20 in his professional career before today. He got his first career extra-base hit as well as first career stolen base.
