MadFriars' Daily Farm Report: June 27

Donn Roach walked six, struck out no one but still pitched well. San Antonio couldn't generate any runs in 14 innings while Lake Elsinore gave up 13 in a loss. Ryan Miller had the big blow for Fort Wayne and both Eugene and the AZL went to extra-innings.

Chihuahuas 4 - Tacoma Rainers 3

Key Statistics:SS Tyler Greene 2-4, 3B, HR (3), RBI; 3B Brooks Conrad 1-1, RBI, 2 BB; LF Jonathan Galvez 1-3, BB; RHP Donn Roach (W, 1-1) 6.0 IP 2 H 2 R 2 ER 6 BB; RHP Hector Ambriz (S,7) 1.0 IP H K.

Prospect Watch:Donn Roach had an unusual line of walking six and having no strikeouts but the groundball machine still only gave up a pair of runs in a very hitter friendly park...Jonathan Galvez may be putting himself in position for his first call-up he is hitting .309/.382/.489...Tyler Greene could also be an interesting option at middle infield .318/.368/.463...Again, and I know this sounds like a broken record, Hector Ambriz is pitching very well in the PCL with a 27/4 K/BB ratio and a 2.54 ERA in 39 innings.

Tulsa Drillers 1 - Missions 0 14 innings

Key Statistics: CF Reymond Fuentes 2-6; 3B Cody Overbeck 2-6; 2B Adam Buschini 0-3, 3 BB; 1B/LF Lee Orr 2-6, 2B; RHP Leonel Campos 4.0 IP 2 H BB 4 Ks; RHP John Hussey 4.0 IP 3 H 5 Ks; RHP Adys Portillo 2.0 IP BB 3 Ks; LHP Jeff Ibarra (L,1-1) 0.0 IP H R HR.

Prospect Watch:In the first of four extra-inning games and after fourteen innings of no runs the game ended in the bottom of the fourteenth when Jeff Ibarra gave up a home run to the first batter he faced...Reymond Fuentes has a slash line of .306/.366/.438 compared to what the rest of the team is hitting at .235/.301/.355...Another strong pitching performance by the patchwork bullpen starters but it also seems like a natural opening for Joe Ross.

Lancaster Jethawks 13 - Storm 5

Key StatisticsSS Diego Goris 1-3, BB; 3B Gabriel Quintana 1-2, 2 BB; 2B Benji Gonzalez 2-4, RBI; C Dane Phillips 1-4, HR (4), 3 RBI; RHP Coby Cowgil (L, 1-1) 2.2 IP 6 H 10 R 5 ER 3 BB 3 Ks HR.

Prospect Watch:Coby Cowgil had a tough time in his second Cal League giving up five runs but three errors also didn't help his cause...Phillips now has 10 extra-base hits in his first 18 games...Diego Goris, 23, has turned into quite a find by the Padres' organization. In 71 games he is hitting .321/.345/.524 with 11 home runs.

TinCaps 3- South Bend Silver Hawks 1 12 innings

Key Statistics:CF Ronnie Richardson 1-4, 2 BB; C Ryan Miller 3-5, HR (8), RBI; SS River Stevens 2-5; RHP Ronald Herrera 5.0 IP 4 H R ER 2 BB 4 Ks; RHP Tony Rizzotti (W, 3-2) 2.0 IP H BB K.

Prospect WatchWith the game tied at one all in the top of the twelfth inning catcher Ryan Miller homered to left field to break the tie. The TinCaps added one more and Tony Rizzotti shut down the home town Silver Hawks in the bottom of the inning for the win...Miller leads the TinCaps in home runs with eight. A fourteenth round pick from last year's draft, he was considered a raw but athletic player that a team should be taking a flyer on in that part of the draft. With Dane Phillips in Lake Elsinore he is getting a chance to catch everyday...With two more walks today leadoff man Ronnie Richardson pushed his OBP to .438.

For further reading on the TinCaps, see the Fort Wayne Journal-Gazette.

Salem-Keizer Volcanoes 5 - Emeralds 4 14 innings

Key Statistics:SS Franchy Cordero 1-5, HR(1) 2 RBI; 1B Marcus Davis 1-4, 2 BB; RF Jose Urena 2-5, 2 RBI, BB; RHP Tony Wieber 4.0 IP 6 H 4 R 3 ER 4 Ks HR; RHP Cory Bostjancic (L,0-1) 1.0 IP H R ER K HR.

Prospect WatchWith the game deadlocked at four in the fourth inning no team scored until the fourteenth inning, the second fourteen inning game in the organization, and again the Padres' team came out on the losing end...Franchy Cordero has now hit in six straight games and seems to be much more relaxed offensively than in Fort Wayne. The negative is the throwing errors are still there with five in seven games...OF/1B Marcus Davis is leading the team in total bases with 21 and a .262/.415/.500 slash line.

Prospect WatchThe AZL Padres lost the last of the organizations‘ four extra-inning games in the eleventh...After many questions about how well he could hit CF Michael Gettys is answering his critics. It's only seven games, but Gettys is showing some plate discipline with a 6/9 BB/K ratio and seven hits and five RBI in his first seven games.
