Barbato has 21 K's in 17.1 innings for SA

SAN ANTONIO, TX: Johnny Barbato, 21 was an over-the-slot signee out of Felix Varela High School in Miami, Florida. Drafted in the sixth round in 2010, the Padres were able to give him a big enough bonus to convince him forgo his scholarship to the University of Florida.

After a so-so first season with Eugene in 2011, Barbato found his groove in Fort Wayne in 2012 where he had a 6-1 record and a 1.84 ERA coming out of the pen. Last season the right-hander split time between the bullpen and starting with the Storm. Although the overall numbers weren't as strong he still struck out 89 batters in 88.1 innings against 33 walks but also had a 5.01 ERA in the hitter...
