MadFriars' Daily Farm Report: June 18

Third round pick Bryan Verbinksy makes his much-publicized debut and impresses in three innings. Burch Smith and Matt Andriese also help lead their teams to victories.

Two of the first three batters reached base against Quack, and he started with a bad 10/8 strike to ball ratio. However he rebounded nicely retiring the final four batters throwing 12 strikes to only one ball.

Key Stats: RHP Bryan Verbitsky 3IP, 1 H, 0 ER, 2 BB, 5 K; RHP Justin Livengood 2 IP, 1 H, 0 ER, 2 BB, 4 K; DH Edwin Moreno 3-4, 2 2B, RS

Prospect Watch: When the Padres selected Bryan Verbitsky in the third round a few weeks ago, most fans were left scratching their heads. Verbitsky was a reliever in college and ranked outside of BA's top 500. Padres justified it saying he has a big arm and he would be a starter. Verbitsky took the first step in proving everyone wrong today. The righty cruised through the first two innings striking out four while allowing one hit. In the third he walked two while striking out one, and it was evident that he started losing command with his secondary pitches. It will take awhile for Verbitsky to move from reliever to starter, but tonight was a good start in what will hopefully be a good career.
