Ernesto Frieri Profile

Ernesto Frieri on Saturday night became the 15th player to make his major league debut as a Padre this season -- striking out two in a perfect inning.

"God, that was so great," Frieri said of the experience. Frieri hit 96 mph on the radar gun.

"Maybe it's because I had 22 days off," joked the 24-year-old, who hadn't been used since the end of the Double-A Texas League playoffs. "I threw everything hard."

A Texas League All-Star, Frieri went 10-9 with a 3.59 ERA across 27 games, including 26 starts, with the San Antonio Missions. In 140.1 innings, he allowed 125 hits, walked 62 and struck out 118.
