The Arizona Rookie League has named San Diego Padres prospect Cody Decker their MVP.

Decker entered Thursday's game leading the circuit in home runs (14), RBI (61), doubles (21), extra base hits (38), and slugging percentage (.711). He is also second in the league in hits (69), third in the league in average (.356), fourth in on-base percentage (.422) and runs scored (45). He also had a 27-game on-base streak during the season, the top mark in the AZL.

Biography:

Decker was named the MVP of the Arizona Rookie League and a postseason All-Star. He led the league in homers, RBI, doubles, extra base hits, slugging percentage (.717), was second in hits, third in average, and fourth in OBP and runs scored. Decker’s 27-game on base streak was tied for the top mark in the circuit.

Cody Decker hit .354 across 52 games with the AZL Padres. He went 70-for-198 with 21 doubles, three triples, 15 homers, 46 runs scored and 63 RBI. He posted a .421 on-base percentage with a 19-to-42 walk-to-strikeout ratio while getting hit by seven pitches. He committed three errors in the field. He hit .411 with runners in scoring position and grounded into three double plays.

Cody Decker hit .111 across seven games with the Fort Wayne TinCaps. He went 2-for-18 with one double, two runs scored and one RBI. He posted a .333 on-base percentage with a 6-to-5 walk-to-strikeout ratio. He committed one error in the field and grounded into one double play while going hitless in seven at-bats with runners in scoring position.

Cody Decker was selected by the San Diego Padres in the 22nd-round of the 2009 MLB Draft, 654th overall.

Decker, a first baseman from Santa Monica, Calif., was a two-time All-Pac-10 selection (2007, 2009), having concluded his four-year UCLA career tied for seventh on the school's career home runs list with 47 round-trippers (tied with Ryan McGuire). He posted a .288 career batting average, having logged career totals with 153 RBI, 118 runs and 178 hits. As a senior in 2009, he led UCLA in home runs (21), RBI (53), runs (55), slugging percentage (.683), walks (36) and total bases (136).
