San Diego, CA – The San Diego Padres announced today they have acquired a player to be named later or cash considerations from the New York Yankees in exchange for right-handed pitcher Chad Gaudin.

Gaudin, 26, made 20 appearances (19 starts) for the Padres this season, going 4-10 with a 5.13 ERA (60 ER/105.1 IP). He was originally signed by San Diego as a minor league free agent on April 12 and made his first Big League start of the year on April 28 at Colorado.

Over parts of seven Major League seasons with the Tampa Bay Devil Rays (2003-04), Toronto Blue Jays (2005), Oakland A’s (2006-08), Chicago Cubs (2008) and Padres (2009), Gaudin has gone 32-35 with a 4.58 ERA (282 ER/554.1 IP) in 205 games (69 starts).

Gaudin was signed by the San Diego Padres to a minor league contract on April 12, 2009 after he was released by the Chicago Cubs.

Originally signed by Tampa Bay as a 34th-round selection in the 2001 First-Year Player Draft, Gaudin has gone 28-25 with a 4.45 ERA (22 ER/449.0 IP) and 326 strikeouts in 185 games (50 starts) over parts of six Major League seasons with the Devil Rays (2003-04), Toronto Blue Jays (2005), Oakland Athletics (2006-08) and Chicago Cubs (2008).
