Wilkes went 7-1 with a 3.21 ERA across 15 games, including 10 starts, with the AZL Padres. In 61.2 innings he allowed 64 hits, walked five and struck out 45 while recording eight double play grounders and holding the opposition to a .269 average. Wilkes tied for the league lead in victories and posted a 3.55 ground ball to fly ball ratio.

The San Diego Padres selected Chris Wilkes in the 19th-round of the 2008 MLB Draft.
The right-hander was 4-1 as a Dr. Phillips high school senior with 60 strikeouts and a 2.27 ERA in 46.1 innings. In football, Wilkes passed for 1,360 yards and 16 touchdowns.
