2007
Vandel went 5-4 with a 4.29 ERA over 13 starts for the AZL Padres. In 65 innings he allowed 82 hits, walked 12 and struck out 48. His 65 innings were third most in the league.
Vandel went 0-1 with a 67.50 ERA over one game with the Fort Wayne Wizards. In two-thirds of an inning he allowed five runs on two hits and six walks.
2006
Vandel went 1-0 with a 9.82 ERA over four games, one start, for the Eugene Emeralds before being sent down to Peoria. In 11 innings he allowed 19 hits, walked ten and struck out 11.
Vandel went 2-0 with a 3.48 ERA over 13 games, including three starts, for the AZL Padres. In 31 innings he allowed 30 hits, walked ten and struck out 33. The opposiiton hit .244 off him, .278 with RISP. In three starts he allowed one earned run for a 0.56 ERA over 16 innings with a ,109 average against - six hits, two walks and 23 K's.
2005
Vandel went 0-0 with a 0.90 ERA in two appearances for the Eugene Emeralds, both starts. In 10 innings he allowed eight hits and a walk while striking out 11.
Vandel went 1-1 with a 0.43 ERA in 11 appearances for the AZL Padres. He struck out 32 while walking just five in 21 innings.

Vandell was taken in the 34th round of the 2005 MLB Draft by the Padres and signed in August of '05.
A 34th round draft pick out of Shaw High School in Georgia in 2005. He had committed to Chipola Junior College before inking his deal with San Diego. Vandel, a left-handed high schooler, combines a lively fastball with a curve and a change. He once struck out 18 in a game in high school. |
