Mercado hit .273 with 38 hits in 139 at bats for the AZL Padres. In 42 games he collected 11 doubles, two triples and a team-high six homers (and 19 extra base hits) while scoring 22 runs and driving in 26. He also drew 14 walks while striking out 39 times and adding four stolen bases in six attempts. Mercado ranked third in the league in homers and third in slugging percentage at .511.

Angel Mercado was selected by the San Diego Padres in the 23rd round of the 2007 MLB Draft, 717th overall.
He led the Bethune-Cookman team in batting average (.404) while finishing second in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) in the same category. He was also in the top five in the league for several other categories including On Base Percentage (4th), Slugging Percentage (2nd), Runs Scored (t-5th), Hits (2nd) and Homeruns (t-3rd). |
