He was invited to play in the Arizona Fall League after the year.
Startup went 3-2 with one save and a 2.19 ERA over 43 games for Triple-A Richmond prior to being acquired by the Padres. In 49.1 innings he allowed 39 hits, walked 18 and struck out 49.
Startup went 0-0 with a 4.66 ERA over 14 games with the Portland Beavers. In 19.1 innings he allowed 13 hits, walked 11 and struck out 16.
