Ruth hit .439 with 36 hits in 82 at bats for the AZL Padres. In 19 games he collected five doubles, four triples, a homer, 14 RBIs and 23 runs scored. Ruth also drew seven walks while striking out just four times. He stole two bases in three attempts.

Ruth hit .222 with eight hits in 26 at bats for the Eugene Emeralds. In nine games he has three doubles, a homer, three runs scored and nine RBIs. He drew two walks compared to four strikeouts.

Ruth collected three hits in 17 at bats with two runs scored and an RBI over five games with the Lake Elsinore Storm.

Ruth hit .226 with 12 hits in 53 at bats for the Portland Beavers. He had two doubles, five RBIs and seven runs scored while drawing nine walks compared to 11 strikeouts.

Ruth batted .339 with 16 doubles, 45 runs scored and 29 RBIs in 50 games for Concordia after he spent his first three seasons at the University of San Diego under the guidance of head coach Rich Hill. He also drew 24 walks while whiffing just nine times. With the Toreros, Ruth was a three-time all-West Coast Conference pick, batting as high as .358 during his junior season.
