Schmidt went 0-1 with a 6.43 ERA over three games, including one start, for the Fort Wayne Wizards. In seven innings he allowed five runs on eight hits and six walks while striking out six. His season ended prematurely after his July 27 start due to soreness in his throwing arm.
Notes:
The San Diego Padres drafted Nick Schmidt in the first-round of the 2007 MLB Draft, 23rd overall.
Schmidt went 11-3 with a 2.69 ERA in 18 starts for the Razorbacks in 2007. He left Arkansas as the school's all-time strikeout leader (345) and ranks among the school's all-time leaders in victories (third place with 28), innings pitched (third, 340 1/3 IP), starts (second, 52) and ERA (eighth, 2.83).
Schmidt played for the USA National Team in the summer of 2006, posting a 3-1 record with a 1.31 ERA in 34 1/3 innings. |
