Alexander had his contract purchased on August 20, 2006 to replace Khalil Greene who went on the disabled list.
Alexander, 35, was batting .265 (114-for-430) with 21 doubles, seven home runs, 37 RBIs, 78 runs scored and a team-leading 14 stolen bases in 102 games for the Beavers in 2006. Originally acquired by the Padres from the Texas Rangers on August 31, 2005, Alexander appeared in 10 games for San Diego last season, batting .111 (2-for-18) with a double.
