Matt Varner was suspended for 50 games for violating the Minor League Drug Treatment and Prevention Program in 2006.
Varner went 1-5 with six saves and a 2.28 ERA over 43 appearances for the Lake Elsinore Storm. In 43.1 innings he allowed 53 hits, walked 12 and struck out 36. The opposition hit .312 off him with four homers.

Varner went 4-5 with a 4.00 ERA and 34 saves for Fort Wayne, leading the Midwest League in saves. In 54 appearances with the Fort Wayne Wizards he allowed 47 hits and 18 walks while striking out 62. |
