Selected by the Oakland A's in the first round (10th overall) of the June 1996 Draft. Signed six-year, $66 million contract extension in March 2004.
2004 Highlights:
* Defensive wizard captured fourth straight Gold Glove at third.
* Missed over a month with a broken hand.
* After career-long struggles against lefthanded pitchers, posted a .893 OPS and a .306 BA against them (.902 OPS and .257 BA against righties).
* Posted .911 OPS at the Oakland Coliseum.
* Ranked fifth in OBP (.397) and finished first in the American League in walks (95) despite missing time with injury.
* Posted fifth straight season of more than 25 homeruns.
* Saw a career-high 4.05 pitches per at-bat.
