| BECAME A CARDINAL: He was selected by the Cardinals in the first round (12th pick overall) of the 1995 free agent draft. He was originally drafted by the Milwaukee Brewers in 1992 but did not sign.
CONTRACT STATUS: Signed a one-year, $2.5 million deal that could pay him up to $4.5 million in performance bonuses in Dec. 2004. Morris had previously turned down a multi-year offer in spring training.
2005 OUTLOOK: Morris career is heading in the wrong direction. He is slated to be the Cardinals 5th starter, a big drop for the man who has suppose to have been the Staff Ace since January of 2002 when he signed a three year deal for $29 million.
Morris could have trouble holding on to his job and may find himself in the bullpen before the season is over.
Of course that doesn't give anyone a warm and fuzzy feeling. We know his troubles in the first inning he pitches.
It's a critical year for Matt. |
