Mark Loretta has developed into one of the game's top players in two seasons with the Padres. Hit .325 last year with 208 hits, 108 runs, 47 doubles, 16 homers and 76 RBI -- all career highs. Had .391 on-base percentage and .495 slugging percentage. Also hit major league leading 16 sacrifice flies -- the fifth-highest total in major league history. In Padres history, only Tony Gwynn has had more hits in a season than Loretta's 208.
Mark Loretta signed a two year extension that runs through 2005 with a club option for 2006.
Loretta batted .314 in 2003 with 13 homers and 72 RBI's, all career highs. |
