Nick Schmidt should have been out of the inning with only one run allowed, but third baseman Vince Belhome’s error, he had two on the night, allowed the inning to continue – a walk, single and double later the Storm were down by four.
The Storm came back in the second inning with a run and in the third when left fielder Jaff Decker hit a massive two-run home run, his 13th of the year, over the right field wall.
Even Decker, who was the star of the night for the Storm with three RBI, still struck out twice.
Although the first inning was bad, Eric Gonzalez, who came in for Schmidt after three innings, had a worse inning, giving up five runs, three of them earned on four hits.
Gonzalez allowed the following sequence before getting an out; double, single, home run, double and a walk before getting the next two batters with Decker’s strong throw from left on a sacrifice fly catching a runner trying to advance to third.
Five runs came across the plate to give the JetHawks a 9-3 lead.
Both teams exchanged runs andin the eighth the Storm had a chance to close the gap when they loaded the bases with one out, but a pop-up by shortstop Jesus Lopez and a ground out by center fielder Brad Chalk ended the rally.
The loss ended a three game winning streak for the Storm.
