The game will be made up as part of a doubleheader on Monday, May 17.
San Antonio (17-18) won 7-1 over Midland (A's)
Nathan Culp posted zeroes across seven innings, yielding three hits and a walk while fanning five. He tossed 89 pitches, inducing 11 ground ball outs to earn his first win of the year. The left-hander had allowed at least three runs in each of his previous seven starts across two leagues and four or more runs five times. Culp has a 2.84 ground ball to fly ball ratio with the Missions.
Sawyer Carroll hit his third homer of the season, a solo shot. The outfielder also singled, walked, and scored a pair of runs. It was his second multi-hit game during the month of May, but the outfielder is batting just .157 for the month with eight hits in 51 at-bats. He has 11 extra-base hits but just three at home. All three of his bombs have come on the road.
Cedric Hunter was dropped to the third spot in the lineup for the fourth time this year and responded by going 2-for-5 with a pair of runs scored. The outfielder has four multi-hit games across his last five and has not struck out during that time. He has not fanned more than once in any game with 12 total on the year while drawing 10 walks. Three of the walks have been intentional free passes.
Lake Elsinore (25-13) won 8-1 over Lancaster (Astros)
Lake Elsinore has won six straight, 11 of the past 12 and 17-of-20. Dan Robertson paced the Storm with three hits and a walk in five trips, scoring twice and notching a pair of RBI. He also stole his ninth base in 12 attempts. It is the sixth time this season that Robertson has notched three or more hits. He stands tied for fourth in the California League with 48 hits and is batting .390 with runners in scoring position.
Nick Schmidt moved to 3-2, yielding one run on five hits and three walks across 6.1 innings. He also hit a pair of batters and struck out six. The lone run came via a solo homer. Schmidt has allowed two earned or less in four straight starts and five of eight overall. He owns a 1.37 ERA across his last four starts and has held the opposition to a .211 average. He has walked three or more four times.
Kevin Hansen reached base three times via two singles and a walk. He also added a sacrifice, scored a run and drove in one. The infielder has successive multi-hit games to break out of a 1-for-15 slump. The right-handed hitter is hitting .306 off right-handed pitchers but owns a .095 mark off southpaws. Hansen is hitting .290 with the bases empty but just .154 with runners on base.
Fort Wayne (16-21) won 3-1 over Lake County (Indians)
Jerry Sullivan allowed one run on four hits and a pair of walks across six innings. He struck out seven, hit a batter and recorded four ground ball outs. Sullivan retired 11 of the first 12 batters, working inside more with his fastball. It is the sixth time in eight starts that Sullivan has allowed two earned runs or less but just the second time he has earned the win. The right-hander has held the opposition to a .228 average on the year.
Wande Olabisi smacked a two-run single to cap a three-run fourth on a 1-for-3 day to push his RBI tally to 13 on the year. The outfielder also stole his fifth bag of the year. Olabisi has a five-game hitting streak and has an RBI in five straight games. He is hitting .324 with runners on base. The right-handed hitter is batting .322 off righties and .214 off left-handed pitchers.
Nick Schumacher earned his fifth save of the season in six opportunities, working a perfect ninth, as the bullpen tossed three scoreless frames. Schumacher has not allowed an earned run over his last six appearances. He has held the opposition to three hits in 14 at-bats with runners in scoring position. He has pitched a perfect inning four times across two leagues.
Matt Lollis reportedly hit 96 mph five times during his outing on Saturday. The big right-hander is a definite prospect (ranked 40th coming into the year) and one to watch when short-season Eugene opens their season, unless he is called upon go move up to Fort Wayne prior to that.
