Two early games produced wins, as Portland got a strong effort from Will Inman, and Fort Wayne had all the hitters out – Nate Freiman, Wande Olabisi, and Edinson Rincon. Eight Storm hitters had a hit and seven scored a run while Erik Davis was impressive.

Portland (7-7) won 5-1 over Sacramento (A’s)

Will Inman allowed a single run on three hits and four walks across five innings, striking out five in a 94-pitch effort to pick up the win. The right-hander has not allowed more than three hits in any of his starts this season, holding the opposition to a .122 average. He has, however, walked 11 in 15 frames but has allowed just one hit with runners in scoring position.

Mike Baxter went 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored to maintain his .400 average. It is the third straight multi-hit game for the Vanderbilt alumnus. Baxter, who has split time between first base and left field, has eight hits in his last 13 at-bats with four extra-base hits.

Greg Burke worked a scoreless sixth inning, working a 1-2-3 inning to earn his second hold of the year. Since giving up a run in his first outing of the season, Burke has tossed 5.1 scoreless frames. He has not allowed a hit to left-handed batters and has given up just one hit with runners in scoring position.

San Antonio (5-7) had a scheduled day off

Lake Elsinore (7-7) won 8-1 over Rancho Cucamonga (Angels)

Erik Davis threw five innings of shutout ball. The right-hander yielded three hits and a walk, struck out three and induced nine ground ball outs. The right-hander had allowed eight runs on 11 hits and six walks in his first 8.2 innings of work. A 16-game winner in 2009 for Fort Wayne, Davis allowed two runs or less in 13 of his 19 starts.

Eight of the nine Storm hitters managed to secure at least one hit and seven scored a run. Kevin Hansen had a pair of hits, including a double, and a walk, scoring a run and recording his first two RBI of the season. The right-handed hitter came into the game with four hits in his first 23 at-bats. The infielder hit .254 with 13 doubles and 32 RBI across 97 games with Fort Wayne a year ago.

Cole Figueroa had a pair of hits in four trips, scoring a run and driving in one, extending his hitting streak to eight games. The infielder is 13-for-35 across the streak, a .371 average. He has five multi-hit games in his last six and an RBI in five of his last seven. Figueroa had a four-game multi-hit streak last season for Fort Wayne en route to batting .319 over the season.

Fort Wayne (7-7) won 10-2 over Lansing (Blue Jays)

Nate Freiman delivered four hits in five at-bats, including an infield single, scored twice and upped his RBI total to 12 on the season with another two on Wednesday afternoon. The first baseman has extended his hitting streak to 10 games and his on-base streak to 19 – dating back to last season with Eugene. Freiman also had a diving stab towards the first base line to save an extra-base hit, flipping the ball to the pitcher while in a prone position. The cleanup batter is hitting .438 with runners in scoring position to begin the year.

Wande Olabisi pushed his average to .409 with a 2-for-3 day that included a walk, a run scored and two RBI – and every batter in the Fort Wayne lineup secured a hit. The outfielder has a hit in all but one of his starts and has scored a run and drawn a walk in three straight games. He has half the amount of walks (5) in eight games that he had all last season – with 35 games in hand.

Edinson Rincon had three hits out of the three-hole in the lineup, including an opposite-field double, while scoring each time he reached base. The third baseman also added an RBI but did commit his fourth fielding error of the season. Rincon is 10-for-29 across his last six games with four extra-base hits and six RBI after beginning the season with three hits in his first 27 at-bats.

Jeudy Valdez has a 17-game on-base streak dating back to last season that is still intact after singling and drawing a walk.
