De La Cruz, 25, spent the majority of the season at Triple-A Portland,
going 2-6 with nine saves and a 3.12 ERA (24 ER/69.1 IP) in 48 games
(four starts). In addition, he made three relief appearances for the
Padres, posting a 5.40 ERA (2 ER/3.1 IP). Over parts of three Major
League seasons with the Detroit Tigers (2007), Florida Marlins (2008)
and Padres (2009), De La Cruz has an 11.84 ERA (25 ER/19.0 IP) with no
decisions in 15 games (one start). He has allowed a .346 opponents
average over his three years in the big leagues.
With today's transaction, the San Diego Padres now have 39 players on
their 40-man roster.
