“Randy has been a part of our minor league system for the past six seasons and has helped to develop many of our current Major League players,” Towers said. “He will be an asset to our Major League staff and clubhouse.”
Ready, 49, is in his sixth season working in the Padres organization and in his second year as manager of the Triple-A Portland Beavers. He has a 489-466 record, including 116-134 guiding Portland. A former Padres player, he rejoined the San Diego organization in 2004, serving as the manager of Single-A Fort Wayne (2004-2006) before taking over the reins at Double-A San Antonio in 2007.
Ready, a native of San Mateo, Calif., spent all or parts of 13 seasons in the Major Leagues with the Milwaukee Brewers (1983-86), Padres (1986-98), Philadelphia Phillies (1989-91; 1994-05), Oakland A’s (1992) and Montreal Expos (1993). He played in 777 games during his Big League career, batting .259 with 107 doubles, 21 triples, 40 homers, 239 RBI and 312 runs.
Lefebvre, 67, was named the Padres hitting coach on November 3, 2008. He had previously served as the club’s minor league hitting coordinator since 2006.
A former Major League manager with the Seattle Mariners (1989-91), Chicago Cubs (1992-93) and Brewers (interim, 1999), Lefebvre compiled a 417-442 (.485) career record. He has served as a coach for six Major League organizations: Los Angeles Dodgers, San Francisco Giants, A’s, Brewers, Cincinnati Reds and Padres.
