The San Diego Padres tabbed right-hander Shuhei Fujiya in the 18th-round of the 2009 MLB Draft out of Northern Iowa. MadFriars.com caught up with the Irvine native to find out about his repertoire, what he looks forward to at the next level, and his drive to play professional baseball.

Shuhei Fujiya, who was the 534th overall pick, finished his career at Northern Iowa tied for the school record for career saves. The right-handed pitcher notched nine saves in 2009, helping him to earn honorable mention All-Missouri Valley Conference honors.

In 21 appearances, Fujiya went 1-4 with a 3.97 ERA. Across 22.2 innings, he allowed 20 hits, walked 12 and struck out 22.
