Portland (24-22) won 7-2 over Memphis (Cardinals)
Eliezer Alfonzo hit a sixth inning grand slam and added a fourth inning ground out to give him five RBI on the day. The backstop last notched five RBI in game on August 27, 2008 while playing for Double-A Connecticut in the Eastern League. His last grand slam came on August 25, 2005 while with Norwich of the Eastern League. Alfonzo did see three successful stolen bases against and has thrown out six of the 30 attempting thievery this season.
In his longest outing of the season, Walter Silva worked seven strong , allowing two runs on two hits and two walks while striking out four. He tossed 88 pitches, netting eight ground ball outs. Silva has gone six plus in two straight after not making it through five in his first three Portland starts. The Mexico native had given up 15 hits in his previous 10 innings of work.
Scott Patterson worked a pair of scoreless frames, giving up one hit and a walk while striking out two and netting a double play grounder – his first this year. The right-hander has allowed runs in six of his 19 appearances this season, never allowing more than a single run in any outing. He has held the opposition to two hits in 24 at-bats with runners in scoring position and has yet to allow an earned run when pitching the ninth inning.

Robert Lara hit a two-run homer – his first – to account for the TinCaps scoring. He did, however, get called for his second passed ball and see two successful stolen bases against. The backstop has collected five RBI in his last four games but has five hits in his last 30 at-bats. Lara has thrown out nine of the 22 base runners attempting to steal off him, good for 40.9 percent.
Rob Musgrave was victimized by a Jaff Decker error that helped lead to four unearned runs. The southpaw was on the hook for six runs, two earned, on seven hits and two walks over five innings, dropping to 1-3. Musgrave also hit a batter while striking out five – seeing three hits go for extra bases, including a two-run homer. Musgrave has given up 13 runs over his last two starts but just five have been earned. He has surrendered eight homers in nine starts – tied for the most yielded in the Midwest League.
Alexis Lara worked two scoreless frames, working to the minimum and striking out three. The right-hander has given up three runs in his last 10.1 innings after allowing 11 runs in his first 10.1. He has stranded four of the five runners he has inherited and is striking out 11.8 batters per nine innings. The opposition does, however, have a .400 on-base percentage to leadoff an inning.
