San Diego, CA - The San Diego Padres announced today that they have agreed to terms on a minor league contact with outfielder Emil Brown and invited him to Major League Spring Training.

Emil Brown, 34, returns to the Padres after having appeared in 13 games for San Diego in 2001. The right-handed-hitting outfielder played in 117 games for the Oakland Athletics in 2008, hitting .244 (98-for-402) with 14 doubles, two triples, 13 home runs, 59 RBI and 48 runs scored.

Originally signed by Oakland as a sixth-round selection in the 1994 First-Year Player Draft, Brown has hit .258 (580-for-2,244) with 112 doubles, 12 triples, 59 home runs, 326 RBI and 296 runs scored in 736 games over parts of eight Major League seasons with the Pittsburgh Pirates (1997-2001), Padres (2001), Kansas City Royals (2005-07) and Athletics (2008).
