San Diego, CA – The San Diego Padres today optioned right-handed pitcher Josh Banks to Triple-A Portland. The club also reinstated right-hander Bryan Corey from the 15-day disabled list and subsequently outrighted him to Portland.

Banks appeared in eight games (three starts) with Triple-A Portland earlier this season, going 1-1 with a 6.66 ERA (18 ER/24.1 IP) with 19 strikeouts and six walks.

Claimed off waivers by San Diego from Toronto on April 23, Banks began the season with Triple-A Syracuse, going 0-2 with a 7.02 ERA (13 ER/16.2 IP) in three starts. The right-hander made his Major League debut in 2007 with the Blue Jays and is 3-6 with a 4.95 ERA (51 ER/92.2 IP) in 20 Major League outings (15 starts) overall with Toronto and San Diego.

The 34-year-old Bryan Corey went on the disabled list August 12 (retroactive to August 10) with a strained left hamstring. He has made three rehabilitation appearances with Portland, tossing 4.0 scoreless innings. Corey went 1-3 with a 6.23 ERA (27 ER/39.0 IP), 18 strikeouts and nine walks in 39 games with the Padres since he was acquired from Boston on May 11.
