The 29-year-old right-hander made two rehabilitation starts with Single-A Lake Elsinore prior to being reinstated, going 0-1 with a 3.12 ERA (3 ER/8.2 IP). Young struck out seven and walked one while allowing five hits.
Chip Ambres, 28, went 2-for-17 (.118) in eight games for the Padres, including four starts in right field, after his contract was purchased from Triple-A Portland on July 8. He hit .289 (92-for-318) with 24 doubles, five triples, 16 home runs, 62 RBI and 70 runs scored in 85 games with the Beavers. Over parts of three Major League seasons with the Kansas City Royals (2005), New York Mets (2007) and Padres (2008), Ambres has hit .230 (38-for-165) with eight doubles, four home runs, 10 RBI and 25 runs scored in 64 games.
