Padres purchase contract of Ledezma

San Diego, CA – The San Diego Padres today purchased the contract of left-handed pitcher Wil Ledezma from Triple-A Portland.

Wil Ledezma, 27, was designated for assignment by the Padres on June 10 and outrighted to Portland on June 12. He went 0-2 with a 5.04 ERA (25 ER/44.2 IP), 38 strikeouts and 30 walks in 14 games (six starts) for San Diego this season. In 11 relief appearances with the Beavers, Ledezma is 1-0 with one save and a 4.41 ERA (8 ER/16.1 IP). He has recorded 20 strikeouts compared to four walks while limiting opponents to a .233 average (14-for-60).

Acquired by San Diego from Atlanta along with left-handed pitcher Will Startup in exchange for left-hander Royce Ring on July 31, 2007, Ledezma has a career 15-22 record with a 5.25 ERA (205 ER/351.1 IP), 232 strikeouts and 168 walks in 141 Major League appearances (40 starts) over parts of six seasons with the Detroit Tigers (2003-07), Braves (2007) and Padres (2007-08).
