Padres recall Clay Hensley

San Diego, CA – The San Diego Padres today recalled right-handed pitcher Clay Hensley from Triple-A Portland.

Clay Hensley, 28, enters his second stint with the Padres this season after being recalled from Portland on July 1 and tossing 2.0 scoreless innings before being optioned back to the Beavers July 4. He began the season on the 15-day disabled list with a right shoulder strain and was reinstated and optioned to Portland on June 6.

In 16 appearances (10 starts) overall with the Beavers this season, including a rehabilitation assignment, he is 1-1 with a 3.94 ERA (21 ER/48.0 IP), 34 strikeouts and 16 walks. Hensley also made one rehab appearance with Single-A Lake Elsinore on April 22, throwing 1.0 scoreless inning.

Over parts of four Major League seasons with the Padres (2005-08), Hensley is 14-16 with a 3.89 ERA (124 ER/286.2 IP) in 75 appearances (39 starts).
