Barrett reinstated; Morton to Double-A

The San Diego Padres today reinstated catcher Michael Barrett from the 15-day disabled list and optioned catcher Colt Morton to Double-A San Antonio.

Michael Barrett, 31, was placed on the 15-day DL on April 8 with a sprained ligament in his right elbow. Prior to his injury, he started three games at catcher for the Padres, going 2-for-8 (.250) with three runs scored and two walks. Barrett went 7-for-10 with two doubles and four RBI over a four-game rehabilitation assignment between Triple-A Portland and Single-A Lake Elsinore. Over parts of 11 Major League seasons with the Montreal Expos (1998-2003), Chicago Cubs (2004-07) and Padres (2007-08), he has hit .266 (905-for-3,408) with 217 doubles, 21 triples, 95 home runs, 413 RBI and 389 runs scored in 1,020 games.

Colt Morton, 26, was recalled from Double-A San Antonio on Thursday (May 22) for his second stint with San Diego this season but did not appear in a game. He played in nine games in his first stretch with the Padres in 2008, going 1-for-15 with two walks, one RBI and two runs scored. Morton has been behind the plate in seven of the club's games, including four starts. In 10 games with the Missions this season, he has hit .200 (7-for-35) with two doubles, four RBI, two runs scored and two walks.
