Portland Beavers Opening Day quotebook

Matt Antonelli

Portland, OR- The Beavers opened play on Thursday against Fresno, picking up their first win of the year behind a strong outing from Josh Geer and contributions throughout the lineup. Portland is counting on many of the same players who won a championship in Double-A last season to lead them to a Pacific Coast League title.

There are ten guys, including yourself, that made it to Portland this year who were part of the championship San Antonio team last year, how much does that help the team here in Portland this year?

"It definitely helps to know the guys you are playing with and it makes the transition a little smoother, especially with [Randy] Ready here; we know his style and know what he expects from us." -- Nick Hundley

"It's always nice to play with guys that you have played with in the past. You know what to expect, you know that the guys are going to go to battle for you…"-- Chase Headley

"We have a nice blend with some established guys and some veteran guys too so hopefully in Portland we can string together a nice season like we did last year." -- Randy Ready

Ready was the manager of the Texas League championship team and Hundley and Headley played prominent roles.

Hundley opened up the scoring for Portland in 2008 with a solo homer in the second inning – his lone hit of the day.

Headley drove in a run with a single and drew a walk while playing left field.
