Padres release Fick, DaVanon

The San Diego Padres announced today that they have released outfielder Jeff DaVanon and catcher Robert Fick.

Both players signed minor league contracts with the Padres during the winter and were non-roster invitees to Spring Training.

Jeff DaVanon, 34, batted .290 (9-for-31) with one double and one RBI in 13 Spring Training games. Robert Fick, 34, hit .130 (3-for-23) with a double and one RBI over 11 games.

With today’s moves, the Padres now have 40 players in Major League camp, including 35 players from the 40-man roster and five non-roster invitees.
