Padres announce roster moves

The San Diego Padres announced today that they have reassigned 12 players to minor league camp, optioned four players to the minors and outrighted right-handed pitcher Mike Gardner to Triple-A Scranton.

Among the reassigned players are right-handed pitcher Paul Abraham, left-handed pitchers Arturo Lopez and Wade LeBlanc, infielders Marshall McDougall, Matt Antonelli and Edgar Gonzalez, outfielders Mike Baxter, Will Venable, Drew Macias and Vince Sinisi and catchers Nick Hundley and Jose Lobaton.

Additionally, catcher Colt Morton and right-handed pitcher Mauro Zarate have been optioned to Triple-A Portland, right-handed pitcher Ernesto Frieri has been optioned to Double-A San Antonio and right-handed pitcher Wilton Lopez has been optioned to Single-A Lake Elsinore.

Mike Gardner was selected by the Padres in the Major League phase of the Rule 5 Draft during the Winter Meetings in December.

With today’s moves, the Padres now have 42 players in Big League camp, including 35 players from the 40-man roster and seven non-roster invitees.
