Padres AFL Invites 2007

The San Diego Padres have decided whom to send to the Arizona Fall League. They will send second baseman Matt Antonelli, catcher Nick Hundley, outfielder Will Venable and pitchers Jonathan Ellis, Neil Jamison and Will Startup.

Steve Garrison, the one High-A eligible player each team is awarded, has been tentatively penciled in. The Padres are erring on the side of caution and want to determine the health of his arm before sending him to the AFL. The right-hander has put together four quality starts since joining Lake Elsinore.

Will Venable, 24, is currently hitting .277 with 18 doubles, two triples, five homers and 56 RBIs over 115 games in San Antonio.

Matt Antonelli has a .334 average over 29 games with the Missions after hitting .314 over 82 games in the California League.

Nick Hundley is hitting .256 with 20 doubles, 19 homers, and 64 RBIs over 85 games with San Antonio.

Jon Ellis is 3-3 with two saves and a 4.78 ERA over 48 appearances with San Antonio.

Neil Jamison is 3-5 with a 4.10 ERA and 11 saves over 47 games with the Missions.

Will Startup went 3-2 with a 2.19 ERA over 43 games in the International League before being traded to the Padres. In six games for Portland he has posted a 3.60 ERA.
