Terrmel Sledge, 30, has hit .216 (32-for-148) with six doubles, six homers, 16 RBI and 17 runs scored in 62 games for the Padres this season. He has made 38 starts, including 37 in left field and one in right. The outfielder was optioned to Portland on July 25 and has played in eight games overall for the Beavers in 2007, including three rehab appearances. He has batted .370 (10-for-27) with two doubles, a homer, three RBI and five runs scored over those eight contests.
Over parts of four Major League seasons with Montreal/Washington (2004-05) and San Diego (2006-07), Sledge has batted .251 (164-for-653) with 29 doubles, seven triples, 24 home runs, 93 RBI and 76 runs scored in 253 games.
The 26-year-old Mike Thompson was recalled from Portland on Sunday (August 5) and tossed a career-high four innings of relief in the Padres loss last night in St. Louis. He allowed three runs (two earned) on four hits and three walks. In six games over three stints with San Diego this season, Thompson is 0-1 with a 6.91 ERA (11 ER/14.1 IP) with five strikeouts and six walks. The right-hander is 3-9 with a 6.29 ERA (75 ER/107.1 IP) in 19 games (18 starts) for Portland in 2007, compiling 62 strikeouts compared to 31 walks.
Originally selected by San Diego in the fifth round of the 1999 First-Year Player Draft, Thompson has a career Major League record of 4-6 with a 5.25 ERA (62 ER/106.1 IP), striking out 40 and walking 36 in 25 games (16 starts) with the Padres.
