With three RBIs on Tuesday, Yefri Carvajal took over the Arizona Rookie
League lead at 15, two more than his closest competition. He also clubbed
his league leading ninth double as part of a 3-for-4 day with a walk and two
runs scored. Four of the top five spots in the doubles category are held by
Padres and the top three in extra base hits are also held by AZL Padres'
players. It was Carvajal's third three-hit game over his last six, and he
has collected eight RBIs over his last five. He did, however, ground into a
double play for the second time in as many days.
Keoni Ruth fell a homer shy of the cycle on a 3-for-5 afternoon. He has as
many triples (3) as doubles (3) and three runs scored while also getting
plunked. He extended his hitting streak to 13 games to open the year, going
25-for-52 over the stretch with five walks and just ONE strikeout. Ruth has
scored a run in five straight games, touching home nine times over that
span. The infielder already has nine multi-hit games on the year.
Simon Castro (1-0) picked up his first professional win, allowing two
unearned runs on two hits and two walks while striking out two over four
innings. Castro uncorked two wild pitches and has let six fly loose this
year over 13 innings of work. The right-hander had yielded eight earned
over his first nine innings in the AZL. He has held right-handed hitters to
a .188 average on the year while lefties are swatting .389 off him.
