San Diego, CA-- The San Diego Padres today reinstated catcher Josh Bard from the 15-day disabled list and placed infielder Russell Branyan on the bereavement list.

Josh Bard, 28, has been on the disabled list since April 12 due to a left groin strain. He is batting .286 (8-for-28) with two runs scored, two doubles and four RBI in seven games. Bard has a career Major League average of .271 (209-for-772) with 77 runs, 46 doubles, one triple, 22 homers and 105 RBI with Cleveland (2002-2005), Boston (2006) and the Padres (2006-2007).

This week Bard played in three extended Spring Training games at the Padres facility in Peoria, AZ and went a combined 6-for-14 with two doubles over the three games.

Russell Branyan, 31, is hitting .292 (7-for-24) with three doubles, one homer and four RBI in 14 games. He has a lifetime average of .233 (402-for-1,729) with 243 runs, 86 doubles, six triples, 112 home runs and 278 RBI with Cleveland (1998-2002), Cincinnati (2002-03), Milwaukee (2004-2005), Tampa Bay (2006) and San Diego (2006-2007).
